Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 18th-century Georgian plate rack is made from dark brown oak with burr oak veneers. The wall-mounted piece has a moulded cornice top, fluted uprights, and two horizontal retention bars on shelves above a solid base board. The rustic farmhouse design makes it suitable for placement above a sideboard in a dining room or kitchen. Visible details include grain patterns in the dark timber, flat shelf edges, and vertical pillar mouldings flanking the open display area. The rack measures 109 cm high, 144 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. It provides open storage for displaying ceramic plates or kitchenware against a wall in a home setting.

FAQs

An 18th-century plate rack is a open-fronted wall-mounted frame designed to store and display ceramic, porcelain, or pewter dining plates securely along narrow shelves with crossbars.

Georgian plate racks were typically constructed from native hardwoods such as oak, pine, or fruitwood using mortise and tenon joinery, hand-carved mouldings, and hand-forged iron nails or wooden pegs.

Authentic 18th-century pieces display irregular hand-saw marks, uneven hand-planed back rails or surfaces, natural shrinkage around joinery, and patination in areas subjected to frequent handling.

Mount the rack above a sideboard, console table, or kitchen worktop, filling the shelves with contrast-coloured stoneware, modern ceramics, or heirloom dishware to create a focal point.

Clean the timber using a soft microfiber cloth and apply a thin layer of natural beeswax paste annually, keeping the wood away from direct heat sources and excessive humidity.
