Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large oak farmhouse dining table dates from around 1900 and exemplifies rustic farmhouse style. The piece uses solid oak timber with a natural brown colour and a lightly bleached finish. The surface exhibits a thick plank top, supported by heavy trestle end supports, a central keyed stretcher, and visible pegged joinery. Signs of age include a weathered wooden grain and authentic character marks across the substantial timber surface. The table measures 78 cm high, 252 cm wide, and 100 cm deep in practical terms. In a contemporary home, this large dining table serves as a functional centrepiece in a dining room or kitchen space. The generous dimensions provide ample seating capacity for family meals and gatherings. The sturdy construction ensures stability for everyday use while maintaining a traditional aesthetic. The natural wood tones integrate well into various interior decor schemes, from rustic country properties to traditional farmhouse settings. The wide surface accommodates place settings and serving dishes with ease during dinner parties.

FAQs

Traditional farmhouse trestle tables originated as versatile dining surfaces supported by two end frames connected by a central longitudinal stretcher. This design maximises legroom and stability while allowing the top to be supported securely by timber joinery.

These tables are constructed from solid oak timber using thick planks for the top surface. The base relies on traditional woodworking techniques, including mortise-and-tenon joints, timber pegs, and keyed stretchers to hold the frame rigid.

Authentic pieces feature visible joinery details such as exposed timber pegs, wedged stretchers, and natural grain variation. The underside should show historical saw marks, natural oxidation of the timber, and hand-finished timber edge profiles.

Pairing a substantial oak table with modern upholstered dining chairs or sleek metal frames creates a balanced visual contrast. Neutral table linens, simple ceramic tableware, and organic textures help highlight the natural tone and grain of the wood.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth and clean spills immediately with a slightly damp microfibre cloth. Applying a natural beeswax polish periodically nourishes the timber and maintains the protective finish without building up synthetic residue.
