Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian painted bentwood hall stand reflects the classic flowing curves of bentwood construction. The piece is finished in a grey paint that reveals subtle signs of age and wear beneath its refreshed surface. The upper section includes scrolled hooks and a central turned finial, while the lower base incorporates an integrated umbrella ring supported by splayed feet. Standing 213 cm high, 86 cm wide, and 86 cm deep, the stand provides practical storage for hats, coats, and walking canes. In a contemporary home, this hall stand suits placement beside the front door or within a traditional entrance hallway. It offers both decorative appeal and everyday functionality for busy households. The sturdy bentwood frame accommodates multiple garments and accessories while maintaining a narrow footprint suited to various spatial arrangements.

FAQs

A Victorian bentwood hallstand is a freestanding hallway storage piece crafted from steam-bent timber, designed to hold coats, hats, and umbrellas within Victorian entrance halls.

These pieces were constructed using solid beechwood softened with pressurized steam, bent into curved structural forms inside metal moulds, and secured with threaded wood screws.

Authentic examples feature maker stamps or paper labels on the central column, original slot-headed steel screws, turned central finials, and continuous steam-bent scroll hooks.

Position the piece in an entryway, stairwell landing, or dressing room to introduce vertical height, functional hanging capacity, and curved architectural lines to modern spaces.

Dust the frame regularly with a dry microfiber cloth, keep the structure away from direct heat sources to prevent wood shrinkage, and check structural screws periodically.
