Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. This 19th-century French gueridon side and lamp table exemplifies the French Restoration style in mahogany and marble. The piece displays a dark brown polished timber finish paired with a dark green circular marble top, supported by three curved legs that meet a shaped triform base on flattened bun feet. Small drop finials hang beneath the top beneath carved details. The table stands 75 cm high and 69 cm wide. It functions well as a lamp table or side table at the end of a sofa in a living room, or as a display surface in an entrance hall or reception room.

FAQs

A gueridon is a circular accent table originating in 17th-century France, supported by a central pillar or sculpted tripod legs. Popularised during the Empire and Restoration periods, these tables frequently feature marble tops and were designed to hold candlesticks, lamps, or decorative objects.

Nineteenth-century French gueridon tables are commonly constructed from mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, often fitted with circular tops of native or imported marble. Construction typically incorporates triform bases, hand-turned legs, and carved scroll supports.

Authentic 19th-century French gueridons show period construction features, such as hand-sawn timber underframes, iron tie-rods beneath the central support, and natural marble inset within moulded rims. Hand-carved details and age-appropriate wear on the triform base or feet also indicate authenticity.

A marble-top gueridon functions as an accent table positioned beside a sofa or placed in an alcove. Pairing the table with a contemporary reading lamp or ceramic vessel creates a clear contrast between historic timber craftsmanship and modern elements.

Clean the polished timber frame using a dry microfibre cloth, applying clear beeswax polish sparingly along the grain to maintain the surface. Protect the marble top from acidic liquids, wiping any spills immediately with a damp cloth and mild soap.
