Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French bistro greeter, dating from 1930, functions as a restaurant greeting station or reception desk. The piece is constructed from pine with a dark charcoal painted finish, featuring panelled sides, decorative corbels, and moulded edges. An enamel plaque bearing the word Caisse is mounted on the front beneath the zinc surface, which has an Art Deco plaque at the centre. Signs of age and wear include distressed paintwork showing underlying timber tones and surface weathering on the metal top. The station measures 111 cm high, 89 cm wide, and 51 cm deep. In a modern home or commercial interior, it serves as a decorative focal point in a hallway, kitchen, or boutique retail space, offering practical surface area and compartmentalised storage.

FAQs

A caisse counter is a specialised reception or cash desk traditionally used in French bistros, restaurants, and retail shops to handle financial transactions and welcome patrons.

These counters were typically constructed using solid timber frames, painted finishes, and heavy-duty zinc or sheet metal tops designed to withstand constant commercial use.

Authentic examples often display original enamel signage plaques, natural paint distressing along wear points, traditional joinery, and zinc surfaces with historic patination.

In residential settings, these pieces can function as kitchen islands, home bar counters, or unique entryway hall tables to introduce structural character and historical interest.

Dust the painted frame regularly using a dry, soft cloth, and clean the zinc work surface with a mild soap solution, avoiding harsh abrasive cleaners that strip the surface patination.
