Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French Provincial console table dates from the 18th century and is made of warm brown wood with a rich patina. The rectangular top features mitred corner joints and a moulded edge, sitting above three frieze drawers fitted with small round turned wooden knobs. Four tapering square legs support the structure, terminating in block feet at the base. The timbers display visible knots and natural grain variations across the front drawers and surface. Measuring 78 cm high, 196 cm wide and 78.5 cm deep, this table suits placement beside the front door in a hallway or against a living room wall. It functions well as a display surface for lamps, books and decorative objects while providing concealed storage within its drawers for everyday household items.

FAQs

Originating in 18th-century France, provincial console tables were constructed as functional wall-side furniture for entryways or dining areas, typically featuring simple linear frames, frieze drawers, and sturdy timber legs.

Regional cabinetmakers utilised locally sourced European hardwoods such as oak, walnut, and fruitwood, joined using hand-cut mortise and tenon joints held together with wooden pegs.

Authentic period construction is indicated by hand-planed surfaces, hand-dovetailed drawer joints, irregular wooden pegging around the frame, and natural timber shrinkage across wide top planks.

Position the piece in a hallway or behind a contemporary sofa to add architectural warmth, pairing the natural wood tone with modern ceramic vessels, contemporary artwork, or an oversized wall mirror.

Maintain the timber surface by applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice annually and ensuring the table is kept away from direct heat sources or extreme changes in atmospheric humidity.
