Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1800s:
Square tapering legs with chamfered inner edges: early nineteenth-century cabinet work.
Vertical shrinkage lines across the curved apron veneer: natural timber movement over two centuries.
Table height of 72 centimetres: customary lower proportion of late Georgian dining tables.
Drop carvings above each leg: regional neoclassical decoration of the Regency years.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large pair of antique George III console tables dates from 1800. Each piece is constructed from figured mahogany with a warm brown colour, polished semi-circular top, and plain frieze, standing on four tapered square chamfered legs decorated with pear-shaped carving at the top. The timber displays natural grain patterns and a glossy reflection across the surfaces. Individual tables measure 72 cm high, 137 cm wide, and 58.8 cm deep. Positioned together against a wall or separated in living spaces, halls, or dining rooms, these demi-lune tables provide practical surface area for lamps, decorative objects, or serving items while adding a classic architectural silhouette to traditional or contemporary interiors.

FAQs

A demi-lune console table is a semi-circular accent table designed to sit flush against a wall, widely popularised during the George III period in Neoclassical furniture design.

Cabinetmakers primarily used dense mahogany timber, often featuring figured mahogany veneers on the tops and aprons over solid wood framework.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct construction such as hand-cut joinery, hand-sawn timber framing, natural age-related surface patination, and clean Neoclassical proportions like tapered legs.

They can be placed symmetrically on either side of a doorway, hallway, or fireplace, or pushed together to form a single circular centre table.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and intense sunlight, wipe with a dry microfibre cloth, and periodically apply natural beeswax to protect the finish.
