Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Arts and Crafts decorative fruit bowl originates from the 1930s and embodies an English Country House design vibe. The solid quarter sawn oak object has a dark brown shade and a wax polish finish that highlights the natural grain. The concave circular bowl sits upon a turned pedestal base with a stepped circular foot. The exterior frieze displays detailed relief carving showing scrolling grapevines with leaves and bunches of grapes, all set against a heavily textured stippled ground. The top and bottom of the carved band feature simple horizontal rounded mouldings, and the interior surface of the bowl is smooth and plain. Gentle surface wear and subtle colour variations across the polished timber reflect its age. The bowl measures 30 cm in diameter and 12.5 cm high. Placed on a sideboard top, it provides a striking display piece or table centrepiece for holding fruit or decorative items in a living room, dining room, or hallway.

FAQs

Decorative oak items from the 1930s often drew inspiration from the Arts and Crafts movement, featuring naturalistic motifs such as foliage, vines, and fruit carved in relief against textured backgrounds.

These items were generally turned on a lathe from solid blocks of oak before craftsmen hand-carved decorative relief patterns around the exterior rims using traditional wood chisels.

Authentic pieces display subtle tooling marks within the recessed carved areas, visible grain structure typical of English oak, and an aged patina accumulated over decades.

A carved oak bowl serves as a grounding organic element when placed on a dining table, kitchen island, or sideboard, displayed either empty or styled with dried botanicals.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically to nourish the timber; never submerge wooden items in water or expose them to direct heat sources.
