FAQs

Emerging in the 18th century, Georgian tripod tables were designed as versatile occasional furniture for serving tea or wine, featuring a tilting top that allowed them to be stored flat against a wall when not in use.

These tables were predominantly crafted from dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany, featuring hand-turned pedestal stems, hand-dovetailed tilt mechanisms, and three hand-shaped cabriole legs joined with mortise and tenon joints.

Authentic examples show original iron or brass catch mechanisms beneath the top, asymmetric hand-planing marks on the underside, and natural wear or shrinkage along the grain of the solid timber top.

Position the table beside an armchair or sofa as an occasional drink stand, or display it folded upright in an empty corner to highlight the wood grain and decorative rim.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the table away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent cracking or fading.
