Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This late Regency period occasional table, dating from around 1800, is constructed from warm brown mahogany. The piece is formed of a flat octagonal tabletop supported by a central turned pedestal stem and three curved splayed tripod legs, complete with small brass cap castors at each foot. The timber displays a rich golden colour with visible antique patina, highlighting natural grain variations across the octagonal surface and turned shaft. Measuring 72 cm in height with a 56 by 56 cm top, the piece expands to 104 cm when opened via its working snap top catch mechanism. Suitable for use in a living room as a side table or lamp table, the compact footprint allows it to sit easily at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair. The tilt-top mechanism provides functional versatility for storage or display when not in use, while the tripod base ensures stability on a variety of floor surfaces. The rich mahogany tone integrates smoothly with traditional and classic interior schemes, offering a practical surface for everyday household items.

FAQs

A Regency tilt-top table is a functional piece of 19th-century English furniture featuring a mechanism that allows the tabletop to pivot vertically when not in use to save floor space.

These tables were predominantly crafted from dense mahogany, featuring hand-turned central columns, dovetailed catch blocks, and tripod legs fitted with brass castors.

Authentic Regency examples typically feature hand-turned pedestals, original brass or iron snap-latches beneath the top, and sweeping splayed legs designed for stability.

Position the table beside an armchair as an occasional drinks table, or tilt the top vertically against an empty wall or corner to display the grain of the mahogany.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually along the wood grain while keeping the tilting mechanism lubricated and free of moisture.
