Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century neoclassical revival console table is made from solid bleached oak with a pale tan timber finish and a softly aged texture. The piece stands 105 cm high, 122 cm wide, and 51.5 cm deep. The rear of the tabletop incorporates an apex upstand gallery centred on a raised circular motif. Two drawers sit flush within the frieze, decorated with continuous carved rosettes and a central carved foliage block. Two sculptural monopodium front legs display heavy acanthus leaf carving at the top and terminate in detailed lion paw feet, supported at the rear by straight square back supports. Position this table beside the front door of a hallway or in a living space to serve as a practical surface for everyday items. The substantial architectural design suits both traditional and contemporary interiors, providing display space on top and storage within the frieze drawers. The pale bleached oak surface highlights the natural grain and hand-carved detailing of the woodwork, while the robust proportions make it a functional statement item for domestic placement.

FAQs

Console tables originally emerged in 18th-century European design as decorative wall-supported tables used to display decorative arts in grand hallways and formal salons.

Traditional console tables are crafted from solid hardwoods such as oak, featuring hand-carved relief friezes, mortise and tenon joinery, and carved sculptural leg supports.

Authentic pieces demonstrate hand-carving irregularities, traditional joint construction, natural timber grain variation, and historical age-related wear rather than uniform machine production.

Style the table against a neutral wall with a contemporary mirror mounted above, or pair it with ceramic pottery and minimalist artwork to contrast organic wood textures against modern lines.

Keep the wood dust-free using a dry, soft cloth, protect the surface from liquid spills, avoid harsh chemical cleaners, and occasionally apply a clear natural wax to protect the raw timber surface.
