This Maison Bagues drinks trolley from 1930 exemplifies French Mid-Century style through an Art Deco glamour aesthetic. Constructed from heavy cast brass with thick plate glass shelves, the piece displays a polished brass colour finish. The design incorporates an X-frame brass structure, two glass tiers, large spoked wheels at the front, smaller rear castors, and an integrated bottle holder. Decorative details include curved side panels with suspended glass shelves, four brass finials on the top corners, and a looped handle at the rear. The trolley measures 76 cm high, 43 cm wide, and 84 cm deep. Practical for entertaining or serving refreshments, this trolley functions effectively as a mobile bar cart in a dining room, living area, or empty corner. The dual-tier configuration provides ample surface area for bottles and glassware, while the large wheels and handle allow for smooth mobility across domestic spaces.

FAQs

Mid-century French drinks trolleys often featured neoclassical and Art Deco design influences, characterised by polished brass frames, clear glass tiers, and decorative wheel details produced by prominent Parisian design houses.

These trolleys were typically constructed using solid brass or brass-plated steel frames, tempered clear or mirrored glass shelves, and metal spoked wheels fitted with rubber tyres.

Authentic mid-twentieth-century pieces display heavy-gauge metal construction, precise casting on decorative joinery, smooth wheel rotation, and natural oxidisation or tarnish on unlacquered brass surfaces.

Position the trolley in a living or dining space to hold decanters, glassware, and bar accessories, or utilise it as an occasional side table for books and decorative objects.

Clean glass surfaces with a non-abrasive glass cleaner and microfibre cloth, and dust the brass frame regularly using a dry cloth while avoiding harsh chemical polishes that strip protective lacquers.
