Cornish serpentine is a rich, variegated mineral found on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall, which gained immense popularity during the Victorian era following its showcase at the 1851 Great Exhibition.

Craftsmen utilised lathes and specialised hand-polishing techniques to turn raw serpentine rock into smooth, decorative objects that highlighted the stones natural veining and rich colour palette.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit high-gloss hand-polished finishes, heavy dense construction, and characteristic red, green, and dark mineral veining unique to the Lizard district quarries.

This piece can be styled functionally as a doorstop or as a sculptural accent on a bookshelf or mantelpiece, introducing organic texture, geological interest, and rich colour to a room.

Serpentine should be cleaned using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove dust, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, acids, or excessive moisture that could dull the polished stone surface.
