A loo table is a type of circular or oval table popularized in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, originally designed to accommodate the popular card game of loo. Many examples feature central pedestal bases and tilt-top mechanisms allowing the tabletop to fold vertically for storage against a wall.

Victorian loo tables were typically constructed using fine timber veneers such as rosewood, walnut, or mahogany over solid pine or oak cores. The supporting structure usually consists of a turned central pedestal, carved tripod or quadform legs, and brass or porcelain castors.

Authentic nineteenth-century rosewood pieces display a rich, dark grain pattern with contrasting streaks. Look for historical construction techniques including hand-carved scroll details, brass tilt catch mechanisms beneath the top, and original metal or ceramic castors.

A rosewood loo table functions effectively as a focal centre table in a large foyer or entryway, or as a compact dining table in a breakfast room. Its circular form helps soften architectural lines in contemporary living spaces while providing functional surface area.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and air vents to prevent the wood veneer from drying out or lifting.
