Regency furniture, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1820, is characterised by classical influences drawn from ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt, featuring clean lines, dark imported woods like rosewood, and restrained brass ornamentation.

These tables were typically constructed using a dense secondary timber carcass veneered with figured tropical hardwoods such as rosewood or mahogany, often accented with turned brass handles, locks, and castors.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct construction methods such as hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction, old-growth timber shrinkage patterns, hand-turned brass hardware, and natural beeswax patination rather than modern chemical finishes.

An antique library table can serve as a functional writing desk in a home office or be placed as a statement centrepiece in a living room, contrasting well against minimalist modern seating and neutral walls.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying pure beeswax to nourish the wood without sealing it with synthetic lacquers.
