Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large antique Doulton Burslem bowl dates from 1900 in the Aesthetic Movement style. Made from porcelain with a cobalt glaze and gilding, the piece displays a cobalt blue and gold colour palette with cream ground sections. The exterior shows a bold cobalt blue floral band around the upper rim embellished with gold motifs, alongside large blue botanical illustrations and butterflies set against sponged gold and cream areas. The interior features a gilded rim, sponged gold detailing, and a painted blue butterfly. Visible age-related wear appears as natural softening to the delicate gold gilding along the upper rim and interior surfaces. The bowl measures 11 cm high, 25.5 cm wide, and 25.5 cm deep. In a modern home, this decorative bowl sits on a sideboard top to hold small accessories or stand alone as a display piece. The intricate butterfly motifs and contrasting blue and gold tones integrate smoothly into traditional Victorian and Gothic inspired interior schemes.

FAQs

Doulton Burslem ceramics produced during the late Victorian era are characterised by high-grade earthenware and bone china bodies, frequently decorated with Aesthetic Movement motifs, heavy gilding, and cobalt blue transfer or hand-painted embellishments.

These items typically utilise earthenware or porcelain glazed with cobalt underglaze designs, accented with overglaze gilding, liquid gold accents, and sponge-applied gilt highlights.

Authentic pieces carry printed or impressed makers marks on the underside containing the Doulton Burslem crown logo, often accompanied by specific pattern numbers or artist initials dating from 1882 to 1902.

A large decorative bowl functions effectively as a focal centrepiece on a dining table, console, or sideboard, contrasting dark cobalt and gold tones against clean, modern timber or stone surfaces.

Hand wash gently using lukewarm water and mild detergent, avoiding abrasive pads, chemical solvents, or modern dishwashers that degrade delicate overglaze gilding.
