Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1930 Art Deco card table employs walnut and walnut veneer in a warm brown colour, finished with a quarter-veneered top, a cylindrical pedestal column, and a tiered circular base. Visible details include a metamorphic folding top, a sliding locking bolt, and a small surface warp on the top. The piece stands 74 cm high, 68 cm wide, and 68 cm deep. Suitable for use as an occasional table in a living room, study, or empty corner, this piece functions both as a display surface and a practical games table. The rise and fall mechanism allows the top to convert easily, revealing a versatile surface supported by the substantial column and stepped circular base. The warm brown walnut grain and tiered construction suit period interiors and contemporary spaces alike.

FAQs

Popularised in the 1920s and 1930s, metamorphic card tables were designed to maximize space efficiency in modern apartments, combining smooth mechanical transformations with bold geometric Art Deco aesthetics.

Craftsmen typically utilised figured walnut or mahogany veneers over solid timber cores, often featuring internal brass swivel mechanisms and green or red felt play surfaces.

Authentic period pieces feature geometric veneer pattern matching, solid brass hardware or internal gears, weighted central pedestals, and period-appropriate joinery such as dovetail construction.

These tables function as versatile occasional side tables in living rooms or study alcoves, ready to extend into functional gaming surfaces when entertaining guests.

Preserve the finish by applying natural beeswax regularly along the grain, keeping the table away from direct heat sources, and ensuring internal rotating mechanisms remain free of dust.
