A Kang table is a traditional low piece of furniture designed to be placed directly on a heated brick platform, known as a kang, in northern Chinese homes. It was historically used for serving tea, dining, writing, or resting.

These tables are traditionally crafted from dense hardwoods such as elm, huanghuali, or zitan, utilizing sophisticated mortise-and-tenon joinery that requires no metal nails or screws to maintain structural integrity.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural patina, hand-cut joinery marks, traditional surface finishes, and signs of age-related wear and shrinkage in the timber, whereas reproductions often display machine milling and artificial aging.

A low table functions exceptionally well as a minimalist coffee table in a modern living space, or as a display surface for ceramics and sculptures, creating a low horizontal focal point that grounds the room.

Preservation requires maintaining stable room humidity levels to prevent timber splitting, avoiding direct sunlight, and cleaning only with a dry or lightly damp lint-free cloth without using harsh chemical polishes.
