George III furniture, spanning the latter half of the 18th century, is characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and the predominant use of imported timbers such as mahogany.

These tables were typically built using dense hardwoods like solid mahogany and figured mahogany veneers, often supplemented by secondary timbers such as oak or pine for structural framing.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-cut dovetails, traditional wax polishes, and signs of age such as shrinkage cracks and oxidisation on the underside and internal components.

Pairing a dark wood antique table with contemporary seating, minimalist lighting, and neutral walls creates a balanced interior scheme that highlights the natural grain of the timber.

Maintain the finish by avoiding direct sunlight, using coasters and placemats to protect the surface from heat and moisture, and periodically applying traditional beeswax.
