FAQs

Art Deco emerged in France just before the First World War and flourished internationally during the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by sleek geometric shapes, stylised motifs, and modern industrial materials.

These pieces are typically constructed from solid oak or oak veneers, featuring traditional joinery methods such as mortise and tenon joints, alongside hand-carved decorative elements.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-accurate joinery, natural ageing signs like patination on the timber, and specific modernist geometric styling rather than machine-milled uniformity.

Pairing the natural wood grain and geometric silhouette with minimalist contemporary sofas or neutral surroundings creates a balanced, eclectic aesthetic that highlights the historical craftsmanship.

Maintain the wood by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuations, and periodically applying a traditional beeswax to nourish the finish.
