Description

An incredibly beautiful and rare antique Victorian inlaid rosewood occasional table. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1830-1840 period.

It is of exceptional quality, this is constructed from solid and veneered rosewood. There are exquisite satin wood inlays on the top depicting flowers and butterflies, the base is also profusely inlaid with satin wood. The top lifts up to save space and is held in place with the original brass catch mechanism. This stands on a bold baluster base terminating in tripod legs.

We have had this stripped and re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age, with some minor wear and patina remaining here and there beneath the polish.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

Victorian furniture encompasses various revival styles popular during the reign of Queen Victoria, characteristically featuring dark woods, intricate ornamentation, and meticulous craftsmanship.

Cabinetmakers primarily utilised dense hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, and walnut, often embellishing surfaces with lighter wood veneers, marquetry, and boxwood stringing.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period joinery techniques, hand-cut dovetails where applicable, natural patination on the timber, and minor inconsistencies indicative of handcrafting rather than mass production.

Pairing a dark wood antique with modern minimalist seating or neutral upholstery creates a balanced eclectic contrast, allowing the historical craftsmanship to stand out as a focal point.

Maintain timber condition by keeping furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying a quality microcrystalline wax.
