Treen refers to small, functional wooden household objects made by hand or turned on a lathe, particularly prevalent from the 17th to the 19th centuries before mass manufacturing.

These items were typically carved from dense hardwoods such as fruitwood, boxwood, or walnut, and frequently decorated using brass piquet work, inlay, or chip carving.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural patination, tool marks indicative of manual craftsmanship, and appropriate wear consistent with age, alongside period-accurate metal pins and construction methods.

Such small-scale historical objects add tactile warmth and intellectual depth when displayed on bookshelves, mantelpieces, or inside glass cabinets as part of a curated vignette.

Preservation requires keeping the wood away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity, cleaning only with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to protect the surface.
