Regency furniture, spanning the late 18th to early 19th century, draws heavily from classical Greco-Roman, Egyptian, and Chinese motifs, characterised by architectural proportions, bold use of veneers, and intricate brass inlay.

Master cabinetmakers predominantly utilised dense imported hardwoods such as mahogany and rosewood, frequently accented with contrasting satinwood veneers, brass stringing, and cast bronze or brass mounts.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, secondary timbers like oak or pine on inner frames, patination consistent with age, and hand-chased brass work rather than modern machine stamping.

A Regency table acts as a strong anchor piece in a dining room; pairing it with minimalist modern chairs creates a striking juxtaposition between historical gravitas and clean contemporary lines.

Maintain a stable indoor humidity to prevent wood splitting, keep the surface out of direct sunlight to avoid fading the polish, and feed the timber periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone sprays.
