Georgian architecture, spanning the 18th and early 19th centuries, is characterised by classical symmetry, proportion, and inspiration drawn from ancient Roman and Greek buildings.

Stonemasons during the Georgian era typically utilised locally quarried sandstone, limestone, and granite, hand-carved using traditional chisel and mallet techniques.

Authentic antique columns display natural weathering, hand-tooled chisel marks, patination from age and lichen, and geological composition consistent with historical quarries.

They make striking focal points as gate piers in a walled garden, structural supports in an orangery, or plinths for sculpture within a courtyard design.

Preservation involves gentle washing with low-pressure water and soft brushes to remove harmful debris while retaining beneficial historic patina and lichens.
