Charlie Johnson Payne, signing his works as Snaffles, was a prominent 20th-century British artist celebrated for his lively and accurate depictions of horse racing, point-to-point events, and fox hunting, capturing the spirit of the Edwardian sporting scene.

Many period prints were hand-coloured offset lithographs or photogravures, often enhanced with watercolour washes by the artist or studio assistants to give the appearance of original paintings.

Authentic prints typically feature the artists signature blind stamp, exact hand-drawn pencil signatures or titles in the lower margin, and period framing materials consistent with the early-to-mid 20th century.

These works pair exceptionally well with rich heritage colour palettes, dark wood furniture, and traditional brass lighting, adding character and narrative depth to studies, living rooms, or hallways.

To prevent fading and paper degradation, frame the artwork using acid-free mounting boards and UV-filtering glass, and hang it away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity.
