Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1900s:
Slender hand-cut dovetails in oak drawer linings: high-grade cabinet making around 1900.
Sheraton revival fluted legs and stringing: popular London cabinet work of the Edwardian era.
Fine craquelure along the top moulding: natural ageing of an early shellac finish.
Neoclassical brass patera handles: original fittings with mellow patina in the recesses.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Sheraton Revival server dates from 1900 and is made from warm brown mahogany with satinwood stringing and boxwood and ebony line inlays. The piece stands on turned and fluted legs with an undertray shelf below and a low rear gallery to the top. Two frieze drawers are fitted with original circular brass ring pulls, and the structure incorporates mahogany crossbanding and oak linings. It measures 107 cm high, 122 cm wide and 58 cm deep. Suitable for placement in a dining room, hallway or living space, the server provides a practical surface for display alongside concealed storage within the two drawers. The compact depth allows it to sit comfortably against a wall in traditional interiors, serving as a functional surface for serving or general household organisation.

An antique server table, or serving table, is a piece of dining room furniture designed to hold dishes, serving utensils, and platters during meals, often positioned against a wall near the dining table.

Traditional servers were constructed primarily from hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, and walnut, often featuring decorative satinwood or boxwood stringing inlays and cast brass hardware.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer sides, natural age-related wear, hand-planed secondary woods like pine or oak, and genuine patination on the mahogany surface.

Place an antique server in a hallway or dining area, balanced by contemporary artwork mounted above the rear gallery and styled with minimalist ceramics or table lamps on the top surface.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply high-quality beeswax twice yearly following the wood grain, and protect the polished surface from direct sunlight, moisture, and hot objects.
