This French coffee table from the early to mid-twentieth century follows a French Provincial style. The piece combines a heavy rectangular black marble top with a dark black wrought iron base. The top features a decorative rope twist edge trim. The frame is supported by intricate scrollwork legs incorporating volute motifs and a connecting lower stretcher bar. The entire metal structure rests on curled feet at each corner. Measuring 45 cm high, 93 cm wide and 48 cm deep, the table suits placement as a central surface in a living room seating arrangement. The compact proportions allow it to sit comfortably in front of a sofa or between armchairs to hold drinks, books or decorative objects.

FAQs

Wrought iron low tables became popular in mid-20th-century France, blending traditional blacksmithing techniques with functional modern furniture forms for domestic interiors.

These tables feature hand-forged wrought iron frames, often decorated with scrollwork or rope twist motifs, paired with stone slabs such as polished marble.

Authentic pieces show structural evidence of blacksmithing, including joinery marks, hand-formed volutes, and weight consistent with solid forged iron and stone.

Position the table centrally within a seating group to create contrast against pale upholstery, wood floors, or neutral woven textiles.

Dust metalwork with a dry microfiber cloth and treat iron periodically with clear wax to prevent corrosion, while cleaning marble using pH-neutral products.
