These garden urns take the form of classical revival planters from 1910. Cast in iron with a weathered rust-brown finish, the pair displays cherub figures supporting wide gadrooned urn bowls above circular pedestal bases. The visual details include smiling putto figures with curly hair, raised arms holding the heavy vessels, and decorative moulded rims, all showing organic patination and surface wear from exposure to the elements. Standing 69 cm high, 46 cm wide, and 46 cm deep, these sturdy planters possess a commanding presence suited for heavy outdoor use. In a contemporary home, this pair works best positioned beside a front door, on a formal terrace, or flanking garden steps to hold trailing plants or seasonal flowers.

Cast iron garden ornaments became widely popular during the nineteenth century, featuring Classical motifs such as cherubs, putti, and acanthus leaves produced by foundries for estate gardens.

They were created by pouring molten pig iron into sand moulds, producing heavy, durable structures capable of displaying detailed decorative reliefs and withstanding outdoor exposure.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural surface oxidisation, crisp relief detail from original moulding processes, substantial weight, and subtle seam lines where component parts were joined.

Positioned as a symmetrical pair flanking an entry door, framing a terrace pathway, or placed on raised stone pedestals to create structural focal points in landscape gardens.

To maintain natural oxidisation and patina, brush away loose debris regularly and optionally apply a light coat of microcrystalline wax to retard excessive rusting.
