FAQs

French marble top tables gained prominence during the 18th and 19th centuries, frequently utilised in salons and formal drawing rooms as decorative and functional statement pieces.

These pieces typically combine hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut with natural marble slabs, accented by cast brass or gilt bronze ormolu mounts and intricate marquetry.

Authenticity is determined by examining construction techniques, joinery, the natural ageing of the timber, hand-carved or cast metal details, and the characteristics of the marble slab.

Pairing the ornate details of a classical table with minimalist upholstery and neutral walls creates a balanced focal point that bridges traditional and modern design aesthetics.

Marble should be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild, pH-neutral soap while avoiding acidic substances, and wooden frames require occasional treatment with suitable wax.
