Victorian furniture encompasses styles produced during the reign of Queen Victoria, generally characterised by revivalism, heavy proportions, and dark woods like mahogany and walnut.

Cabinetmakers during this era predominantly used solid hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, and rosewood, employing traditional joinery like dovetails for drawers and hand-turned wooden components.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage consistent with age, and natural patina resulting from decades of use and wax polishing.

Pairing dark wood antique furniture with neutral walls and modern minimalist decor creates a balanced aesthetic that highlights the rich grain and craftsmanship of the piece.
