Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

During the Georgian period, dining customs evolved to include chilled wine and champagne at the table. Specially crafted wooden buckets lined with metal were used by servants to hold ice and cool wine bottles before and during meals.

Authentic pieces are typically constructed using traditional cooperage techniques, featuring vertical staves of dense hardwoods like mahogany held together by tight-fitting brass hoops, often lined with a fitted metal insert to hold ice and water.

Authentication relies on examining the timbers patina, hand-cut dovetails or joinery, hand-beaten brass bands secured with copper pins, and the presence of hand-forged drop handles rather than modern cast replacements.

An antique wooden bucket can be utilised as a functional champagne cooler during gatherings or repurposed as a decorative planter or magazine holder in a living space to add historical texture.

Protect the wood by avoiding direct exposure to standing water and extreme temperature fluctuations. Clean the brass bands gently with a soft cloth and maintain the mahogany with periodic applications of traditional beeswax.
