FAQs

Antique letter racks emerged in the 19th and early 20th centuries as increased postal correspondence led to a need for organised desktop stationery management.

They were typically crafted from solid timbers such as oak or mahogany, frequently accented with brass, copper, or repousse metal panels.

Authenticity is indicated by traditional joinery, genuine aged patina on the wood and metal, period typography, and hand-tooled decorative metalwork rather than modern cast replicas.

It can be placed on a home office desk or a console table to hold modern mail, notebooks, or receipts, adding tactile historic character to the workspace.

Maintain the piece by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and occasionally applying natural beeswax to the timber, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners on both the wood and metal components.
