Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1800s:
Spiral reeding on the turned pillar: cabinet work of the late Georgian period.
Solid mahogany circular top: cut from a single wide board.
Shaped tripod legs with pad feet: classic late 18th-century form.
Softening on the foot undersides: natural wear from many years of use.

This Georgian side table takes the form of a wine table, dating from around 1800 in the Georgian style. The piece uses solid mahogany timber finished in a warm brown tone with a smooth, polished surface across its circular top. The construction includes a tilt-top action, a turned and fluted central pedestal column, and three tripod cabriole legs ending in pad feet. The table stands 71 cm high, 61 cm wide, and 61 cm deep. Placed in a modern home, this English country house design functions well as an end-of-a-sofa table or accent piece in a living room, study, or hallway. The woodwork shows subtle natural grain variations across the round timber top, alongside gentle highlights reflecting off the polished surface. The central column incorporates decorative turnings leading down to the junction of the three slender cabriole legs, which curve outward to support the structure. The upright proportions and compact footprint suit small display uses or serving drinks within a traditional interior scheme.

Originating in eighteenth-century Britain, a wine table is a small occasional table designed to hold decanters, glasses, or candles beside seating in reception rooms.

These tables were primarily crafted from dense Cuban mahogany or Honduran mahogany, often finished with beeswax or shellac to highlight the natural grain.

Authentic pieces feature hand-carved turned central columns, hand-cut dovetail or block joinery beneath the top, and original iron or brass fittings on tilt mechanisms where present.

Place the table alongside a modern armchair or sofa to serve as a functional drink surface, pairing dark timber with soft upholstered textures.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply high-quality beeswax once or twice a year, keeping the wood away from direct sunlight and central heating sources.
