This Tiffany-style leaded glass door window originates from 1900 and displays an Art Nouveau design. The vertical rectangular panel is set within its original wooden door frame, complete with a dark metal keyhole plate on the right stile, multiple individual amber yellow and green glass panes secured with lead cames, and natural timber showing visible grain. The pictorial leaded glass scene depicts a parrot with a cherry in its beak perched on a tree branch, a fox gazing upward, two swallows, a sunburst motif over a horizon, and leafy canopy work. The panel measures 176 cm high by 77 cm wide. Suitable for interior architectural installation as a statement door insert or decorative wall partition, this piece brings coloured light and narrative imagery into a hallway, living area, or study. The construction incorporates traditional leadwork techniques and visible surface wear including minor glass cracks inherent to period stained glass panels.

FAQs

Tiffany-style leaded glass refers to decorative glass panels created using the copper foil method popularised by Louis Comfort Tiffany in the late nineteenth century. Individual segments of glass are wrapped in thin copper foil and soldered together to form detailed pictorial scenes or geometric patterns.

These windows are constructed using pieces of coloured glass joined by lead cames or copper foil seams soldered with a tin and lead alloy. The completed assembly is typically mounted within a timber or metallic frame to ensure structural stability for architectural placement.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut opalescent or slag glass with subtle colour variations, tight solder lines, and natural surface oxidisation on the metalwork. Inspection of the glass weight, lead profile, and maker signatures assists in verifying origin.

A leaded glass panel can be installed inside an interior timber door, integrated into a room divider, or hung in front of a plain clear window to catch incoming sunlight. It acts as an architectural focal point while providing light diffusion and privacy.

Clean leaded glass using distilled water applied with a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding abrasive cleaners or ammonia solutions that react with the solder. Periodic inspection of the surrounding timber frame prevents moisture damage and maintains stability.
