This Art Deco shop window display stand dates from the 1900 period and is designed for the display of jewellery. The piece is formed of a central upright brass column topped with a spherical finial, mounted on a heavy, stepped black base. Eight brass branches, some of which are articulated, extend outwards from collars on the column and are secured with adjustable thumbscrews, with notches along the edges of the arms. One of the brass branches carries etched inscriptions naming the maker, F Sage & Co London, and the retailer, Potter & Sons. The stand measures 84 cm high, 69 cm wide, and 26 cm deep. In a modern interior, this display stand functions as a striking accessory for a gentleman's library or study, placed atop a sideboard or desk. The articulated arms allow for adjustable positioning to showcase small items such as pocket watches, cufflinks, or trinkets. The combination of the brass metalwork and the painted iron stepped base provides a distinct industrial and commercial aesthetic suited to interior displays, bringing a piece of early twentieth-century retail history into a domestic setting.

During the 1920s and 1930s, commercial retailers utilised specialised brass and metal display stands in shop windows and on counters to present accessories such as ties, scarves, gloves, and collars in an organised, elevated fashion.

These commercial fittings were constructed from solid brass, iron, and steel, featuring weighted cast bases to ensure stability, coupled with adjustable notched brass arms and threaded thumbscrews.

Authentic pieces exhibit heavy weighted bases, functional mechanical adjustment screws, notched arm profiles designed to hold specific merchandise, and natural oxidisation on brass components.

These items serve as functional organisers for jewellery and scarves in a dressing area, or function as sculptural brass accents when placed on a sideboard or office desk.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners that strip aged patina; periodic light oiling of threaded adjustment screws ensures smooth mechanical movement.
