A treen porringer is a small, hand-carved or turned wooden vessel featuring one or two flat handles, traditionally used in Scotland and northern Europe for consuming porridge, soups, or broths before the widespread use of ceramics.

Scottish treen was typically turned from close-grained domestic hardwoods such as sycamore, maple, laburnum, beech, and boxwood, which could withstand daily use and moisture without imparting strong flavours to food.

Authentic pieces exhibit tool marks consistent with early lathe-turning or hand-carving, natural shrinkage cracks, uneven oxidation, and a rich patina developed from centuries of handling and application of natural oils.

Antique treen brings warmth and organic texture to minimalist or contemporary spaces when displayed on open shelving, sideboards, or coffee tables as part of a curated collection of natural artefacts.

Antique treen should be kept away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations. Clean only with a dry cloth and occasionally nourish the dry wood using food-safe mineral oil or beeswax to prevent splitting.
