This Regency period games table is constructed from dark brown rosewood with a polished finish. The design includes a rectangular fold-over top, a central frieze drawer fitted with small knobs and a brass escutcheon, carved trestle supports adorned with floral rosettes, and claw feet mounted on brass castors. Measuring 78 cm high, 57 cm wide, and 41 cm deep, the piece is practical for daily use as a side or occasional table. In a contemporary home, this table fits well against a wall in a living room, study, or hallway as a decorative display surface or accent piece. The compact proportions allow it to occupy an empty corner without dominating the room, while the folding top offers additional surface area when needed. The rich grain of the timber and the classical carved motifs provide a functional antique addition to both traditional and eclectic interiors.

FAQs

A Regency games table is an English furniture piece produced during the Regency era (18111830), designed specifically for social card games and recreation, typically featuring a fold-over or swivel top.

Regency tables were predominantly constructed using high-grade timber veneers such as rosewood and mahogany over solid wood frames, often accented with brass fittings, castors, and hand-carved detailing.

Authentic Regency pieces feature period details such as brass lion-paw castors, symmetrical carved rosettes, reeded legs or trestle supports, original brass keyhole escutcheons, and historic patina across the wood surfaces.

Position the table closed against a wall as a hallway console, in an empty corner, or behind a sofa, pairing the dark timber tones with modern table lamps, contemporary artwork, or framed prints.

Keep rosewood furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer movement and fading, clear dust using a dry microfibre cloth, and apply a high-grade beeswax polish sparingly along the timber grain.
