Elegant early C19th Regency period octagonal brass-mounted rosewood tripod base table with chequer-board games top.
Smart Regency rosewood games table of octagonal design, standing on inverted shaped tripod supports. The facetted column with brass fluted panels onto a circular central boss , the ‘hips’ of the legs with brass-mounted caps . The base and legs with ebony stringing detail.
The octagonal rosewood top with a broad cross-banded edge with ebony stringing , the centre inlaid with a precisely-defined chequer or chess-board games top . The squares of the top unusually being of alternating inlay of rosewood and oak .
The form and design of this echoing the style of Louis Le Gaigneur of London , the French emigré cabinet-maker associated with this type of brass-mounted furniture during this period. The undoubtedly French design influence , combined with the use of English oak in the top , pointing to the association.
In excellent original condition, with a pleasing mellow colour and patina.
