An 18th century writing table is a piece of antique furniture designed primarily for correspondence and paperwork, typically featuring a rectangular top, inset writing surface, and one or more frieze drawers.

These tables were predominantly constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, frequently accented with brass hardware, leather or gilt-tooled inserts, and hand-cut dovetail joints.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate construction methods, such as hand-cut dovetailing in the drawer boxes, hand-forged or cast brass fixings, timber shrinkage patterns, and natural wear consistent with age.

An antique writing table can be integrated into contemporary spaces by pairing it with minimalist seating to create a striking contrast, or by using it as a functional workspace or a console table in a living area.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber bleaching, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax.
