Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Introduced in France during the 1760s and rapidly adopted across Georgian Britain, a bonheur du jour is a compact ladies writing desk featuring a flat table surface topped with a raised rear superstructure of open shelves, drawers, or pigeonholes.

These pieces frequently utilise West Indian satinwood veneers over oak or pine frames, trimmed with exotic timber crossbanding such as rosewood or tulipwood, hand-cut dovetail joints, brass castors, and tambour slatted mechanisms.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-planed secondary timbers, fine hand-cut drawer dovetails, natural wood shrinkage lines along veneered surfaces, and original brass fittings exhibiting subtle oxidisation.

Position the piece within a sunlit drawing room alcove or bedroom corner, paired with a contemporary neutral upholstered chair and understated drapery to highlight the warm wood tones and marquetry details.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft microfibre cloth, apply a high-grade beeswax polish once annually, and maintain a stable indoor humidity level away from direct heat sources to prevent veneer movement.
