This type of tray was used both on grand tours and campaigns, but also in wealthy houses for serving drinks. It features a good quality large side-loading tray, with shaped side carrying handles. Constructed with fine quality mahogany with a dovetail construction, it is reasonably heavy (a sign of quality) with an original stunning colour & patination. The original cabinetmakers’ label remains but the ink is work, so we don’t know who the maker was. The base of the Georgian butlers serving tray is constructed from a single mahogany plank (another sign of quality). The tray is supported by new webbed straps, on a good quality bar-shaped mahogany-folding stand, with uniting ring-turned stretchers for additional support. What makes this an unusual and rarer example is the fact that it features a good-sized tray. This tray and table are a classic example from the late Georgian period and it boasts a stunning colour and patination.

Condition Report:
This is a good quality antique Georgian butlers serving tray, constructed of mahogany, on a bar-shaped stand, circa 1820, in good original condition. Nominal old use marks to the tray top and leading edges and age-related shrinkage to the singe-plank tray top, but nothing significant, considering its age and years of use. The Georgian butlers serving tray boasts an excellent colour and patination, having ben wax-polished by hand in our workshop to a professional standard. The wooden stand has been fitted with new webbing straps, to ensure sufficient tray support. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
