Founded in 1793 in Staffordshire, Minton became one of the foremost British ceramic manufacturers of the nineteenth century. The factory was celebrated for pioneering earthenware glazes, fine bone china, and decorative cabinet plates painted with detailed pastoral landscape scenes.

Victorian display plates were typically constructed from earthenware or fine bone china. Designs were applied using transfer-printing techniques, hand-painted polychrome enamel decoration, or a combination of both, before receiving a protective clear lead glaze coat.

Authentic pieces generally feature impressed or printed Minton factory marks on the reverse, often accompanied by year codes or registration diamond marks. Additionally, high-quality detailed hand painting, precise border patterns, and natural glaze crazing are characteristic of period production.

Display plates can be elevated using brass plate stands on a sideboard, arranged inside a glazed cabinet, or mounted on a wall in a symmetrical gallery format to introduce historical colour and texture to modern rooms.

Clean gently using lukewarm water and a mild non-abrasive detergent applied with a soft cloth. Avoid submerging antique earthenware in water for extended periods, and never use abrasive scrubbers or modern dishwashers.
