Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bamboo furniture became fashionable in Britain during the late 19th century as part of the Aesthetic Movement, which drew inspiration from East Asian art and design. Easels made of bamboo were produced both for functional studio use and as decorative parlour items to display framed art and photography.

These easels were constructed using imported bamboo canes, often heat-treated or scorched to create a patterned tortoiseshell effect. Internal wood cores were used to reinforce stress points, secured with brass pins, metal chains, and turned wooden pegs for support.

Authentic period pieces feature natural variations in the bamboo nodes, hand-scorched dark mottling, and historical metal fittings such as brass chains or iron hinges. Construction typically includes pegged joinery rather than modern screws or synthetic adhesives.

A bamboo easel serves as an elegant floor-standing display for large oil paintings, contemporary prints, or framed antique mirrors. It works well positioned in an empty room corner, foyer, or alongside low seating to add vertical structure and visual interest.

Keep bamboo furniture away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent the organic canes from drying out and splitting. Clean gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and occasionally apply a light coat of natural beeswax to preserve the gloss and texture.
