Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Trestle tables represent one of the oldest forms of dining furniture in Britain, originating in the Middle Ages. Designed originally as demountable boards resting on loose supports, the design evolved by the 18th and 19th centuries into fixed trestle and X-frame tables suited to country houses, taverns, and domestic sculleries.

Traditional English country trestle tables were constructed primarily from native softwoods and hardwoods such as pine, ash, and oak. Tops were frequently left unpainted or scrubbed clean with sand and water, while bases were painted in milk paint or mineral pigments to protect the timber.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut joinery, including exposed mortise and tenon joints held with wooden pegs, hand-planed undersides, and natural wear patterns on the stretchers and feet. Original painted surfaces often display subtle crazing and layered paint history rather than uniform modern distressing.

A painted trestle table functions effectively as a focal dining surface or work desk in modern rustic, minimalist, or eclectic interiors. Pairing the patinated wood with contemporary seating or clean-lined task lighting creates a balanced contrast between historical texture and modern design.

Maintain scrubbed tops by wiping along the grain with a slightly damp cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners. To protect bare timber, apply clear beeswax or specialized wood wax periodically, while painted bases should be dusted with a dry, soft cloth to preserve delicate patination.
