FAQs

Plumbers turpins, dressers, and bobbins are traditional hand tools historically used by plumbers to shape, dress, and flatten sheet lead for roofing and pipework before the advent of modern machinery.

These tools were typically hand-turned or carved from dense, durable hardwoods such as boxwood, lignum vitae, or applewood to withstand the heavy impact and pressure of shaping metal.

Authentic pieces usually display distinct hand-turned lathe marks, natural patination from years of handling and linseed oil application, and visible wear consistent with trade use.

Grouped together on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or coffee table, these sculptural wooden objects add organic texture, architectural interest, and a sense of history to contemporary spaces.

Preserve the natural patina by keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations, applying microcrystalline wax sparingly only if the wood appears dry.
