18th C. Delft Blue Tin Glazed Earthenware Charger 'De Witte Ster'

Very nice 18th c Delft blue charger by Cornelis Brouwer from De Witte Ster

The charger decorated in blue with a chinoiserie flower decoration.

Marked at the reverse with a star and CB which stands De Witte Ster and Cornelis Brouwer.

Cornelis Brouwer was the owner of De Witte Ster from 1724-1738 which was situated on the street called Oude Delft in Delft.

Lovely large plate with the usual ware but no crack or restoration.

Delft earthenware refers to tin-glazed pottery produced in and around Delft in the Netherlands, primarily during the 17th and 18th centuries. Developed as an accessible alternative to imported Chinese porcelain, it features distinctive blue hand-painted motifs on an opaque white glaze.

These chargers were formed from local clay, fired once to create a biscuit body, and dipped in an opaque white tin glaze. Cobalt oxide was painted directly onto the dry glaze before a final firing fused the pigment and created a glossy surface finish.
