Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Neoclassical pedestals draw visual inspiration from classical Greco-Roman architecture, frequently featuring proportions modelled after classical column orders such as Ionic, Corinthian, or Doric. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, European craftsmen combined polished architectural marbles with gilded bronze mounts, known as ormolu, to create formal stands for displaying sculpture.

These pedestals were typically crafted using dense structural marbles or onyx for the shafts and bases, often secured internally via a central threaded iron rod. Decorative capitals, collars, and stepped bases were cast in bronze or brass and finished with mercury gilding to resist tarnish and create contrast against the natural veining of the stone.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-chased metalwork with sharp details on leaf motifs and volutes, along with historic construction signs such as square hand-cut iron nuts on the internal tie-rods. Natural marble from this era demonstrates uneven oxidation, hand-carved edge profiles, and fitment joints tailored specifically to the individual castings.

In modern interiors, a pair of pedestals can be placed symmetrically to flank an entryway, doorway, or fireplace hearth to provide vertical structure. They are commonly utilised to elevate contemporary ceramic art, bronze busts, modern sculpture, or lush indoor greenery.

Marble surfaces should be cleaned exclusively with pH-neutral stone soap and microfibre cloths, keeping acidic substances away to prevent etching the polished finish. Ormolu mounts require gentle dusting with soft brushes, avoiding metal polishes or chemical cleaners that can strip the delicate historic gold layer.
