Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Butler tray tables originated in 18th-century Britain, designed with removable trays and folding stands to facilitate the serving of tea and meals in various rooms of large houses.

Authentic pieces are typically constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany, oak, or walnut, featuring hand-dovetailed joints on the tray and folding X-frame or scissor stands.

Authentication relies on examining timber ageing, hand-cut joinery, traditional patination, and wear patterns consistent with historical use rather than modern reproduction techniques.

This versatile piece functions effectively as a compact coffee table, a side table, or a portable bar cart, adding historic texture and utility to contemporary living spaces.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, dusting with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the wood.
