Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Introduced in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, breakfast and centre tables were designed for informal dining or as central display pieces in grand reception rooms. The tilt-top mechanism allowed the heavy timber top to be flipped vertically so the table could be pushed to the perimeter of the room to clear floor space.

These tables were typically crafted from solid mahogany with book-matched flame mahogany veneers applied to the top surface. The construction features a solid central column or pedestal, a heavy quadripartite or triform base, and brass snap-latch mechanisms to secure the tilting top.

Authentic period pieces exhibit original brass tilt catches, hand-cut joinery beneath the top block, and natural age-related oxidisation on the underside of the timber. Look for matched grain patterns across the top surface, original castors concealed beneath the feet, and hand-finished polish.

A circular centre table creates a focal point when placed in an entry foyer or large hall. In a dining area, it can be paired with contemporary upholstered dining chairs to balance traditional woodwork with modern textures.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the timber finish. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, dampness, and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage or veneer lifting.
