This nest of three tables follows a French Country style from the 1900 period. The pieces use walnut and mixed wood veneers with a warm brown colour finish, complemented by geometric parquetry patterns, floral and bird marquetry inlay, turned legs, and graduated sizing. Each table top displays patterned wood grain in rectangular shapes with moulded edges, resting upon slender turned uprights joined by lower stretchers and terminating in shaped feet. The largest table measures 73 cm high, 57 cm wide, and 38 cm deep, with the smaller two tables nesting underneath in descending order. In a contemporary home, this set works effectively at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair in a living room, providing convenient surface space that can be expanded or tucked away as needed. The nest functions well for holding lamps, drinks, or books, while bringing traditional timber warmth and decorative inlay work into the interior scheme. The versatile sizing allows the pieces to be separated around the room when entertaining guests or kept nested together to save floor space during daily use.

A nest of tables is a set of graduating accent tables designed to slide neatly beneath one another to save space. Developed in the late eighteenth century by cabinetmakers such as Thomas Sheraton, the form gained widespread popularity throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as flexible domestic entertainment seating and serving surfaces.

Parquetry involves laying contrasting wood veneers into geometric patterns, such as cubes, diamonds, or herringbone designs. Marquetry uses thin slices of timber, bone, or mother-of-pearl cut into figurative shapes, such as flowers or foliage, and applied to a wooden core using animal glues.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut joinery such as dovetails or mortise-and-tenon construction, natural age wear on support runners, and slight irregularities in the veneer inlay. Later reproductions often display machine-cut precision, uniform modern finishes, and plywood undersides.

A nest of tables functions as versatile side tables placed beside a sofa or armchair, allowing individual elements to be pulled out when hosting guests. In modern spaces, they add texture and historical contrast while providing compact surface areas for lamps, books, or drinks.

Maintain wood inlaid surfaces by dusting regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax paste annually. Avoid placing water glasses or hot items directly on the veneer, and keep the furniture away from direct heat sources to prevent lifting or cracking of the timber.
